Hue
Hue is situated in the central area of Vietnam and was the ancient capital of the country during the era of Imperial rule. You can visit the Forbidden city of Hue which was home to 13 emperors between 1802 and 1945. Despite extensive damage to the palace during the American war, you can still see explore the luxurious and secretive world of the ancient court. Modern Hue is a friendly and comfortable place to visit with many places to eat and drink from the traditional local food (which Hue is famous for) to the more familiar western menu. While you are in Hue, take a trip down the winding Perfume River visiting ancient Pagodas and Temples or hire a bike or bicycle and get out into the calm, relaxing countryside surrounding Hue.
Getting there: Hue has a small domestic airport and train station that links to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
