Kep

Kep is a seaside resort area in Cambodia and includes the small town of the same name which is the capital of Kep Province. The town is full of ruined shells of old villas, destroyed in the Khmer Rouge days and during the subsequent Civil War and stripped down by the leaving Vietnamese army. The perfect emphasis in Kep is on watching the sun go down, eating fresh crab ($1 a bucket) and drinking. There's a bunch of great little traveller hideaways and while the beach is very ordinary, Kep remains nevertheless a fine destination - take a few good books with you!

Getting there: There are several gateways to enter Kep such as Kampot, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Ha Tien, Vietnam, mostly by bus.
